Key Scripture:
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” — Genesis 1:1 (NKJV)
Introduction: The King’s Grand Opening
The Bible opens not with the story of a religion, but with the story of a King and His Kingdom.
God, the Creator and King of the universe, initiates His Kingdom by creating territory the heavens and the earth — for His rulership to expand and for His will to be done.
The phrase “In the beginning” is more than a time marker.
In Hebrew, the word is “Bereshith” (בְּרֵאשִׁית), which carries the meaning:
- Principal thing
- First in priority
- Foundation
- Beginning of all things
This teaches us that God’s Kingdom and His purposes were always the principal thing — the ultimate focus from the very start.
Key Thought:
Creation was the formal declaration that the King was establishing His Kingdom in a new realm called Earth.
Hebrew Understanding: “Bereshith” (בְּרֵאשִׁית)
| Word | Meaning | Implication |
| Bereshith | Beginning, principal thing, chief, first | God’s Kingdom and its expansion are the chief, principal purpose of creation. |
God did not create casually.
He had a vision — to extend His invisible Kingdom into the visible world through His sons and daughters.
The Priority of Humanity in the Kingdom
Shortly after establishing the earth, God reveals the priority of His Kingdom plan: humanity.
Genesis 1:26 (NKJV):
“Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion…'”
Key Points:
- Humanity was created after the environment was prepared — showing we are the centerpiece of His earthly Kingdom.
- Humanity was created in God’s image and likeness, meaning we reflect His nature, character, and authority.
- Humanity was given dominion (royal authority) over all the earth — not to dominate each other, but to steward and govern the earth under God’s rulership.
God’s Order of Priority:
- Create Territory (heavens and earth)
- Prepare Environment (light, atmosphere, water, land, vegetation, animals)
- Create Humanity (His royal representatives)
This reveals:
- Mankind is not an afterthought — we are central to God’s original intent.
- Kingdom assignment was humanity’s first mandate, not religious rituals.
Kingdom Principle from Lesson 1.1:
The King made humanity His top priority because we are designed to manifest His Kingdom on earth.
Reflection Questions:
- How does understanding the Hebrew meaning of “In the beginning” shift your view of creation?
- What does it mean to you personally that you were created to have dominion and reflect God’s Kingdom on earth?
- Where have you unknowingly replaced Kingdom living with religious thinking?
Key Declaration for Students:
“I am not a mistake. I am a priority in the Kingdom of God. I was created in the image of the King to extend His rule and His will on earth.”
