Basic understanding of kingdom of heaven

Key Scripture:

“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.” — Isaiah 9:6–7 (NKJV)

Introduction: The Hope in the Middle of Darkness

Immediately after the Fall of Man, God announced His plan: Restoration through a King, a Son, and a Government. The problem was not just sin, it was the loss of divine government and dominion. The solution would not be mere forgiveness, it would be the return of the Kingdom of God to humanity through Jesus Christ.

Key Elements of God’s Prescription for Restoration

  1. A Child is Born, a Son is Given
  • The Child (human nature) speaks of Jesus’ birth into the world.
  • The Son (divine nature) was given, Christ, the eternal Son of God, already existed and came into human flesh.
  • Key Point:
    • Humanity would be restored through a perfect Man who could reclaim the lost Kingdom authority.
  1. The Government Will Be Upon His Shoulder
  • Jesus did not come to start a new religion; He came to bring back the Kingdom government.
  • “Government” here means rule, authority, order, administration, leadership.
  • Christ would carry the weight of rulership restoring divine order on earth.

Key Thought:

The Kingdom is not just in Heaven; it is God’s rulership established on earth through Christ and His followers.

  1. His Names Reveal His Kingship and Nature

Each title of Jesus in Isaiah 9:6 describes what the restored Kingdom offers:

Name

Meaning for the Kingdom

Wonderful Counselor

Wisdom and perfect leadership.

Mighty God

Power to rule and overcome enemies.

Everlasting Father

Eternal source of identity and care.

Prince of Peace

Restorer of harmony, wholeness, and justice.

Key Thought:

Jesus is the complete fulfillment of everything Adam lost.

  1. An Everlasting Kingdom
  • No End: Christ’s Kingdom would expand and last forever — unlike the fallen governments of men.
  • Justice and Righteousness: His rule would bring back what was lost: righteousness (right standing) and justice (right order).

Psalm 89:14:

“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne.”

Reflection Questions:

  1. What difference does it make to see Jesus as a King rather than just a Savior?
  2. How can you begin living today under the government of the Kingdom of God?
  3. Why is Jesus’ role as Prince of Peace important to restoring your life and environment?

Key Declaration for Students:

“Jesus, the Son of God, has restored the Kingdom. I receive His government, His peace, and His purpose in my life!”
